Meet Sammy Moore

Sammy Moore is a senior majoring in communication sciences and disorders. Moore is dedicated to her field of study, and is involved in many activities on campus. She is a member of the Mortar Board Senior Honor Society, Order of Omega and the Kanas State Student Speech Language Hearing Association. She is also a lab leader for juniors in the Disorders of Articulation and Phonology course, an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Debra Burnett’s Child Language Lab and a drama therapy assistant for Barrier-Free Theatre. She also works on campus as a student office assistant for the Economics Department.

Moore is currently applying to graduate school to get her master’s degree in speech and language pathology. She hopes to get accepted into a graduate school to continue her education next fall.

Along with being involved on campus, Moore has made a huge impact on Kappa Alpha Theta in her four years of membership.

“Theta means becoming the best possible version of yourself,” Moore said. “Theta has encouraged me to do this through my academics, service, friendships, and daily life. I’ve enjoyed being in an organization much bigger than myself, and seeing the effect we can all have on each other and the world around us.”

Moore said that the biggest lesson she has learned from being in Theta is how to love and be loved in a friendship.

“Theta offers the chance for the purest form of friendship, which is unlike many others I’ve experienced in the past,” Moore said. “I’m willing to do nearly anything for my friends and it’s such a great feeling to have that in return.”

Moore advises younger members be open to new friendships in Theta, and to be willing to try new things.

“Take the time to sit by new people at dinner, room with someone you don’t know well, and get to know as many people as you can,” Moore said. “You never know what will happen.”
